A studio built on subtraction.
Monolith is a small architecture and residence studio in Dubai, working across the GCC. We are deliberately compact — a single conversation from first sketch to final joint.
We founded Monolith in 2012 on a stubborn idea: that architecture's real material is not concrete or glass, but space itself — and that most buildings hold too much of it, too loosely.
So we work by removing. Every project is pushed until it rests on a single clear gesture — a mass pressed into the desert, a shaft sheared to the sun, a plate held up by light. What survives is calm, specific, and built to last a generation in the Gulf climate.
Fourteen years on, that discipline has carried us from private villas in Al Ain to towers on the Abu Dhabi corniche and a pearl-heritage pavilion in Doha — always the same studio, the same hands, the same conviction.

Four things we refuse to compromise.
Restraint
We design by subtraction. A space is finished not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove.
Permanence
We build for a generation, not a season. Stone, bronze and glass, detailed to weather the Gulf climate and outlast fashion.
Place
Every project belongs to its site and its region — the desert, the water, the density of the city. Nothing arrives from a template.
Craft
The idea only matters if it survives construction. We stay close to the trades and draw every junction that decides the feel of a room.
Three people, one signature.
Rania Haddad
Founding Principal, Design
Trained in Beirut and Zurich, Rania leads concept and form. She founded Monolith in 2012 on a single conviction: that space is the material, and everything else is in service of it.
Omar Khalil
Principal, Delivery
Omar carries projects from parti to handover, holding the line between the drawing and the built joint across sites in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Mei Tanaka
Associate, Interiors & Material
Mei directs the studio's material research and interior architecture, tuning stone, metal and light until a room feels as inevitable as the shell that holds it.
Work with the studio.
We take on a small number of projects each year so every one gets the whole studio.
